Human Resources Generalist

Job Title: Human Resources Generalist
Reports to: Director, Human Resources
Location: Reston, VA USA
Job status: Full-time, Exempt

Job Summary: The Human Resources Generalist will be a self-starter that is responsible for providing day-to-day support across multiple HR functions to include but not limited to recruiting, onboarding, benefit administration, policy administration and implementation of key HR initiatives. In addition, the Human Resources Generalist will oversee the ADP Workforce Now platform to optimize functionality and manage system-related projects and implementations, and other human resource related tasks and functions as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support recruitment process by partnering with hiring managers to assist with the creation of job descriptions, sourcing and screening of candidates, and coordination of interviews
  • Perform new hire onboarding tasks to include processing of background checks, preparing new hire paperwork, and completion of I9/E-verify
  • Responsible for maintaining all records and processing of changes in ADP Workforce Now; new hires, terminations, pay and data related changes, and benefit and deduction related changes
  • Serve as main point of contact for payroll and benefit related questions; research and resolve inquiries in a timely manner
  • Maintain electronic personnel files and records
  • Administer employee benefit programs including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, life, disability, hsa/fsa and 401k
  • Process benefit enrollments in applicable systems and manage online COBRA enrollments
  • Reconcile and audit benefit invoices and prepare journal entries
  • Compile and analyze various reports and key metrics as needed or requested
  • Maintain org charts and company directory
  • Manage all backend setup of the ADP Workforce Now platform to include employee and manager self-service portals, benefits, carrier feeds, reporting and maintenance
  • Identify, evaluate and implement methods for creating efficiencies, streamlining workflows and automation of processes
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • Perform administrative tasks such as handling of human resources related mail and shipping of new hire welcome packages
  • Perform other human resources related assignments and tasks as needed

  • Proven ability to research, analyze and resolve complex payroll and benefit related issues
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent time management skills and proven ability to complete multiple tasks within tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to provide exceptional customer service to employees
  • Ability to build strong relationships and demonstrate trustworthiness and reliability
  • Capable of maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Strong technical skills and HRIS systems acumen


  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field of study
  • 3+ years of experience working in Human Resources
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • ADP Workforce Now super-user experience required
