Perspectives From an Eastern European Health Care Professional on New Data From CROI 2021: HIV Service Utilization Among PWID

Conference Coverage
Clinical Thought
People who inject drugs are at high risk for acquiring HIV infection and often have only limited engagement with HIV services. Although I provide HIV care in Eastern Europe, in this commentary, I share my thoughts on new data reported at CROI 2021 from studies conducted in India evaluating factors associated with HIV service engagement and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on PWID in the hopes that lessons learned in other regions can be applied to Eastern Europe and similar geographic areas that are grappling with high HIV transmission rates among PWID.
