Faculty Biography:

Mitchell R. Smith, MD, PhD, is the Director of the Lymphoma Service in the Department of Medical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center. A graduate of Stanford University, Dr. Smith earned his MD and PhD at Case Western Reserve University. He completed his fellowship in medical oncology and biomedical research through the clinical scholars program at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. After serving as Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Oncology at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, he joined the Department of Medical Sciences at Fox Chase Cancer Center in 1993.

He is listed in “Best Doctors in America”, and has been listed in Philadelphia magazine’s Top Doctors issue.

Since completing his fellowship in 1988, he has been an active clinician, involved in caring for, as well as in designing and carrying out clinical trials for, patients with hematologic malignancies. In addition, he is also a laboratory investigator whose lab has aimed to develop targeted approaches to improve therapy of lymphoma and myeloma.

In 2003, Dr. Smith was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Fourth Annual Legacy Gala for his work with lymphoma.

Dr. Smith is a member of the NCCN Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphomas Panel.

Adam D. Cohen, MD is an Associate Attending Physician and Assistant Professor at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Cohen earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania where he then held a residency in internal medicine. He completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York, and was also a Research Associate in the Laboratory of Tumor Immunology there.

Dr. Cohen is a member of various medical and scientific societies including the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, and the American Society of Hematology. He is also a member of the NCCN Multiple Myeloma Panel.

Dr. Cohen is a reviewer for Annals of Oncology, Cytotherapy, the Journal of Translational Medicine, Blood, Amyloid, and Clinical Cancer Research. He is author or coauthor of more than 30 scientific publications, book chapters, and reviews.

Robert J. Morgan, MD, is Professor of Medical Oncology, Department of Medical Oncology and Therapeutics Research at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center; Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCLA Medical School; and Staff Physician, Department of Medical Oncology and Therapeutics Research, at City of Hope National Medical Center.

Dr. Morgan completed his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed a fellowship in the medical oncology and therapeutics research at City of Hope National Medical Center as well as a research fellowship in hematology, fellowship in hematology, and residency in internal medicine at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. Dr. Morgan is board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology.

Dr. Morgan is a member of numerous NCCN committees, advisory boards/teams and panels, including the Cervical/Uterine Cancer Panel, Ovarian Cancer Panel, and the Guidelines Steering Committee. He is also involved in many other professional associations.

David S. Ettinger, MD, is Alex Grass Professor of Oncology and Professor of Medicine, Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Dr. Ettinger received his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky. His postgraduate training included an internship at Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany, New York. He also completed fellowships at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota and The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. Dr. Ettinger is board certified in internal medicine and holds sub-specialty certification in medical oncology.

Dr. Ettinger has served as a consultant for dozens of organizations. He is widely published and has authored or co-authored more than 200 articles for journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Cancer. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research, Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer, and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer. Dr. Ettinger is chair of the NCCN Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Panel, Antiemesis Panel, and Occult Primary Cancers Panel. He is also the chair of the NCCN Guidelines Steering Committee. Dr. Ettinger is a member of the NCCN GIST Consensus Group; the NCCN Small Cell Lung Cancer Panel, Thymic Malignancies Panel, and Senior Adult Oncology Panel; the NCCN GIST and PET/CT Task Force; and the Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer DSEC. He is on the editorial board for JNCCN and part of the NCCN Cetuximab and Taxane Scientific Advisory Boards. In addition, Dr. Ettinger is a member of the NCCN Board of Directors and ORP Investigators Steering Committees.
