Allogeneic Transplantation: Applying New Research for Improved Outcomes

Whether you treat patients with transplantable disorders or perform hematopoietic transplantation, these CME-certified programs provide an efficient way to hear the latest review in allogeneic transplantation today. In these sessions, you will receive information you can use to aid in clinical decision-making. Learn when transplant should be considered, what factors influence outcomes, the effect of age on patient eligibility, and recent advances in HLA matching.

This program is produced in partnership with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). The NMDP facilitates unrelated donor transplants, conducts research, provides medical education, and patient support.

Release Date: July 14, 2009

Expiration Date: July 13, 2010

Physicians: maximum of 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits

Status: The activity is not currently available for credit.

Begin the Virtual Presentation

Claudio Anasetti, MD, summarizes research that compares outcomes of related and unrelated donor transplants.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe factors that may result in lower survival from human leukocyte antigen (HLA)–matched unrelated donor transplantation vs sibling donor
  • Explain the effect of recipient cytogenetics on unrelated donor transplantation outcomes
  • Discuss strategies to reduced graft-vs-host disease and the effect these have had on HLA-matched unrelated donor transplantations

  • Mary M. Horowitz, MD

CREDIT INFORMATION

Release Date: July 14, 2009

Expiration Date: July 13, 2010

Physicians: maximum of 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits

Status: The activity is not currently available for credit.

Begin the Virtual Presentation

Mary Horowitz, MD, explains the influence of patient and donor factors on unrelated transplant outcomes.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Explain why HLA-mismatched donors may be options for patients requiring hematopoietic cell transplantation
  • Describe the effects of mismatching at various HLA loci
  • Understand how differences between equivalently HLA-matched donors affect outcomes in hematopoietic cell transplantation

Begin the Virtual Presentation

Dennis L. Confer, MD, explains advances in HLA typing including clinical and technology innovations.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Distinguish between low-, intermediate-, and high-resolution HLA DNA typing
