Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe prevalence of smoking in HIV-infected patients and morbidity associated with tobacco use
  • Apply the transtheoretical model of cognitive behavioral therapy to HIV-infected patients who plan or who are in the process of quitting smoking
  • Assess current healthcare group dynamics for active collaboration in helping patients quit smoking
